I read that 72 percent of the Russian people support Putin in this “war” against Ukraine. This isn’t surprising because in our war against Saddam Hussian and his army Bush W approval rating was 86 percent. The fight against terrorism was the catchphrase at the time. The stop the spread of nuclear weapons, the weapons of mass destruction turned out to be “false.”

These are just numbers to most people, but in reality, these were mothers, fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, sisters, brothers, and just plain kids. The war in Vietnam, both South and North Vietnam cost the country 2 million civilian lives, “yes”, that is two million souls that weren’t fighters. Saying it just in plain words makes you realize that cost was very high, “to gain what”? The additional loss of over 1.1 million Viet Gong and NVA soldiers and then the South Vietnam soldiers of 200,000. Plus, soldiers, “what a loss”. The war cost Vietnam 3.3 million fellow citizens, and the USA lost 58,000 thousand or so souls ourselves.

So when we look at this Ukrainian invasion, we must think with our hearts, not of the armies as much, but the innocent civilians that will die that never lifted a weapon in defense or offense against anyone.

We, the citizens, allow or elect these leaders in past times and now, are genuinely responsible for who we put in power and keep in control. Leaders must be kept in check by not staying long enough in power to corrupt themselves, to feel like kings,queens and dictators real or imagined. GOD BLESS
