Courage and Honor,
Honor, as a kid, I heard it a lot; you never hear about honor and integrity anymore. My life was knowing at an early age that I would most likely join the army and go to war; it was like a family thing; many Boyanton males loved their country if need be willing to fight for it, and need be die for it, “if necessary.” My grandfather did just that in 1942. I wonder as I look at my great, great-great-grandfather’s picture, a poor southern farmer, as he becomes a private in Alpha company 39 infantry from Lawrence County, Mississippi, in April 1862 at 17 years old, I wonder what he would be thinking about our nation and the lack of action from men and women. He was part of the generation that stood up like the founding fathers before him in A belief. I sit and wonder if my non-action is going to cause the country to surrender without a fight to socialism and a “new world order.” If he looks down from heaven, would he look at my deeds in Vietnam and smile or wonder if I am a coward not trying hard enough in saving the nation from the inevitable death of the nation to socialism? The death of over 50 to 100 million-plus children, women and men in China and Russia in the name of “communism,” years of despair, hunger, and lost chances, this isn’t what I want for my grandkids in the future. Had men or women of courage had come along in Russia or China with leadership ability and the will to do whatever it took to save the nation, many souls wouldn’t have died. If one person can cause many deaths; then one person has the power to stop it. COURAGE
