Greatest killer of american wealth is the national chains. The loss individuality of area is gone for sure. Florists, hardware companies, lumber companies, and restaurants, to name a few, have been replaced with national chains at the expense of the local economy and the charm. The little farmers we do have, have no place to sell their products to,so we have vey few left. The wealth of the commuinty has been sent to far away place that has no idea or care or wants the area needs.
During my life on the coast of Mississippi, I witnessed the greatness of entrepreneurs along the old highway 90 back in the late 50s and 60s. In Bay Saint Louis and especially Waveland, one truck stop after another , one restaurant after another, not one on the coast to my knowledge, belonging to a national chain. The wealth owning property, the aquired profit was spent in the community for the benefit of all. Now we have no growth or very little growth, and no small company can compete with price and advertising much less with customer base national chain.
Less then 20% of the population control 77% of the total American wealth,2016. The top one percent owns 29% of the total wealth which is more than the entire middle class. Fifty some odd years ago the wealth was 50 percent more infavor of the individual. The national chains are removing future wealth at an alarming rate, and the monies to build as an individual is above and beyond most individuals’ price or credit. We are all becoming slaves of another master of our own choosing.
I now realize why large corporations side with the socialist governments. The market share they own is guaranteed to survive in a socialist world.
