the tremendous political frog race

Once upon a time in Mississippi, a frog decided to run for political office. He hopped all the way to Jackson, the state capital, to sign all the necessary paperwork. To his dismay, the Republican party refused to allow a frog to run. Undeterred, he returned to his home in Hancock County, where he gathered frogs from miles around to support his campaign.

In a grand frog assembly, they discussed their options. Despite the frog’s Republican leanings, they believed he had ties to the Democratic party, which often welcomed misfits and unusual candidates. The frogs decided to make another trip to Jackson, with television crews and news reporters following their every hop. On the steps of the capitol building, the frog delivered a spectacular speech, and to everyone’s amazement, not a single fly was in sight.

The Democrats, in their typical fashion, embraced the frogs with thunderous applause. However, news of the commotion reached the ears of Republican Lieutenant Governor Hoseman, who rushed from his office to investigate. Recognizing that it was an election year and that every vote counted, Hoseman decided to welcome the frogs into his fold. He promised a home for frogs in every county, an endless supply of flies for all, and the complete elimination of harmful insecticides statewide. His shrewd political maneuvering, playing both sides, led to another Hoseman victory.

This is a fictional story, and any resemblance to real-life events is purely coincidental.
